STAT 2 Introduction to Statistics

N/A
Found Useful

Pros

Lectures are highly intuitive and crystal-clear. Purves does an excellent job of explaining concepts. He is very affable and gentleman-like and he does his best to make lectures interesting and relatable to everyday life.

Cons

Exams are much harder than the weekly problem sets, which consist of four relatively straightforward questions. These problem sets are obviously too short, and do not afford students much practice. Exams require solid conceptual understanding of the statistics behind the formulas, so what appears to be an extremely elementary course up front is definitely not as easy as it looks.

Pros

Pretty interesting guy during lecture, holds Q&A sessions before tests that definitely help a lot.

Cons

a lot of the times the lecture material has nothing to do with the course material. The textbook's example problems/hw exercises do not accurately reflect difficulty levels of the exams. Definitely go to section to learn the material, and go to lecture to get the handouts.
