Prerequisite: one course in college chemistry. Introduction to microorganisms as biological entities. Survey of the roles of microorganisms in the ecosystem. Application of microorganisms to industrial and environmental problems. Discussion of microorganisms as causes of human disease and response of hosts to microbial invasion.
