Detailed information about English courses can be found in the course description booklet to be available at the time of priority registration from the Department of English.Students should take only six hours from English courses numbered 100 to 151.100-level ENGL (composition) courses (101-151) are designed for freshman and sophomore level-students. Students with more than 65 credit hours who have not completed the communication requirement must choose English 254 or 354 (or both if they need six hours) to complete this requirement. (In unusual cases, exceptions may be granted by the Chief Adviser of the English Department.)ENGL 180 does not count as an English composition course.Students registering for independent study (ENGL 199, 299, 399 or 497) must secure permission from a professorial staff member willing to direct their study and must file an independent directed reading contract (available at the Department of English) with the undergraduate adviser, 123 Andrews Hall.Courses at the 400-level are open only to students with Senior standing.ENGL 886, 887 and 888 will not count towards credit in any Graduate Program.A graduate student registering for ENGL 897 or ENGL 997 must file a contract form with the English Department, Andrews Hall 202B, by the end of drop/add or be subject to being dropped from the course by the English Department.
